Dear Campbell County Game and Fish Members:
Rain, rain, go away – and it did around 10:00! Even thought there was lots of mud and puddles, the fish were biting and the fun was shared by all! Our 39th Special Fishing Olympics was a winner and you just can’t beat this kind of fun – especially if you catch the “Big One”!!!! This main fishing event took place at Campbell County Game and Fish Club on Saturday, May 14th. Our Special Fishing Olympics, sponsored by the 5th District Sportsmen, was a success due to the generosity of your club who make this a wonderful day for our special Olympians. Your club members go out of their way to make everyone feel welcomed. Our Ludlow special needs group first started at your lake many years ago and this year dedicated their fundraising efforts in memory of Tommy Zwick who was always at the fishing events.
This event could not run without many people involved. You make a difference on this day with your support and generous donation of your clubhouse and use of your lakes. Your generosity exceeded this year by stocking the lake with fish (the catfish were especially interesting to catch- by the pounds – HUGE! The day was a bit dreary at first but the die-hard fishermen were out in force trying to catch the prize winning fish. We have had Special Olympians coming back to this event for at least 30 years now – so this event is very meaningful for them.
I hope we can count on your support again in three years when this event returns to your lake.
As always, Fishing Olympics will be the second Saturday in May and the 2017 event will celebrate 40 years back at the lake where it all started –Boone Lake, Walton, KY.
Thanks again for all you do for our special population and their families.
Sincerely,
Cindy Goetz – Special Olympic Fishing Chairperson
Midge Elmore – 5th District Federation of Sportsmen Chairperson
